Hades Review: Underworld Adventures Start Now!

Hades is an amazing roguelike RPG game developed by Supergiant Games. Designed specifically for Microsoft Windows, the product was released as an Early Access game in December 2018, with a full release scheduled for the second half of 2020.

Graphics 5/5

What catches the eye of anyone who launches Hades is its graphic design, so let's make it the first point of the Hades review. Supergiant Games is known for creating vivid, memorable worlds in all of its games, and each project differs from the previous one in atmosphere and beauty. This time, the developers have chosen rich contrasting colors, which makes all characters seem as if they came from the anime movies.

Locations are teeming with small details, and although the isometric camera is stingy with wide shots, sometimes you will see beautiful landscapes, like the black and green city that stretches in front of the character. Style alone can make you fall in love with Hades.

Gameplay 5/5

The protagonist of the game is Zagreus, the son of Hades and the prince of the Underworld. Suddenly, he realizes that the society of lost souls, the three-headed Cerberus, and his gloomy dad do not suit him, so it's time to join other Gods living on Olympus's peaks. The air there is cleaner, the landscapes are brighter, and the audience is more cheerful. The only problem is to get out of the kingdom of his father.

Zagreus will have to go through whole hordes of hellish creatures, restless deads, and other enemies. Unlike previous games from the studio, Hades relies not on slow and thoughtful combat, but the fast, dynamic clearing of enemies, and this dynamic relies on Zagreus's abilities.

Controls 5/5

The controls of the game are described in a short preview, but you have also know your arsenal. Zagreus can choose a weapon: sword, spear, bow, gloves, blaster (who said that Greek Mythology should all about old weapons?) or shield (sorry, Cap!). Each weapon can be upgraded as you progress.

Replay Value 5/5

Hades is still at the stage of the Early Access. The developers plan to release tons of content, but if I hadn't said about this, you would hardly have guessed that the game has not been completed yet.

The Bottom Line

Hades is an excellent variable roguelike with a well-developed plot, lots of details, variety, and an original idea. I recommend you to download Hades and have some fun while getting out of Hell.

Conclusion

Hades is an excellent example of how "beta" status means nothing. The incompleteness of the game gives only the absence of some bosses, weapons, and so-so optimization. Otherwise, there is everything for fans of the genre: challenges, an interesting combat system, and excellent replay value..

Pros : The visual design of the game is great;
Replay value is enough for a game in Early Access;
Difficulty: The game is hard enough to keep you interested.

Cons : Early access issues: incomplete localization, bugs in animations;
Monotonous.
