Octogeddon Review: Unforgettable Experience but a Bit Too Pricy

Nothing beats hearing Octogeddon’s grunts of madness when he feels like everything is set against him and he sets off to lay waste to a hapless victim. You can download Octogeddon only on Windows.

Graphics — 4/5

The massively cartoonish graphics that are reminiscent of games from the 80s and 90s serve as a proud reminder of the past of enormous creatures such as Godzilla and King Kong. The best part about the graphics are the humour-infused cutscenes as Octogeddon gets into a mad frenzy. The backdrops are taken from different locations around the world such as New York, Paris and Tokyo settled on a 2D and TD-esque animated backdrop. Let’s move on to another part of the Octogeddon review.

Gameplay — 5/5

At first, the game feels like a game about an oversized octopus with massive ego issues, and you might be left to wonder how the plot to destroy the world exactly pans out. As you soon realize, however, this game satirizes a lot of things including the stealing of culture, the loss of meaning of certain symbols such as the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty, and even the military industrial complex. Octogeddon comes both as a destroyer and a liberator. Most battle sequences begin with your eight-legged freak character deep in his lair browsing the internet over some transmission device. An act from humans immediately gets Octogeddon into his usual foul mood, and he sets off to run things aground from there. In one scene, a toll attendant accidentally rips apart your ID, and it’s all downhill from there.

Every stage has two halves, each with three levels in the water and three levels in the streets with Octogeddon on his way to laying waste to a famous landmark.

Controls — 4/5

The underwater battle scenes involve you spinning around from one spot, while land-based challenges offer more freedom for you to roam and fight off enemies. The game requires that you constantly choose from resources to take down enemies, which means fast reaction times. You have to take a well position in order to counter the most brutal attacks, and an analog controller would make great sense for these moves.

Replay Value — 4/5

Though the game is quite lacking in content, it does provide a wholesome experience. Even if you are defeated and lose your extra appendages, you can start with your basic form with only two tentacles and can also spend any shells you got to purchase new DNA or lives that you’ll begin with. You’ll even encounter boss enemies faster than before, giving you a sense of no loss when you play this game.

Conclusion

Octogeddon is fun to play, having all the hallmarks of a Tower and Defense game that has a slightly different touch to it. Gameplay completely changes depending on the number, type, and arrangement of appendages that you possess, thus breaking the monotony of battle. There are different elements that you can try out and see a different result in your game, but that requires patience.

Conclusion

Once you download Octogeddon, it will probably prove to be a worthy addition to your installed games catalog..
