Remnant: From the Ashes Review — Date with the Evil

Remnant: From the Ashes is a first-person shooter. After the otherworldly Roots have enslaved Earth, your task is to fight interdimensional evil off. Download Remnant: From the Ashes and lead anti-demonic guerilla.

Graphics 5/5

Remnant: From the Ashes game is an absolute optic orgy. A few minor glitches and buggy textures aside, it offers a beautifully designed world. Separated in zones, it offers some breathtaking scenery. Crimson rays gleaming off the serene ocean, scrapyards with rusty vehicle carcasses, trash bin fires lighting dilapidated houses...

Remnant masterfully creates suspense in its world. Deserted areas and the eerie whisper of the wind send shivers down your vertebrae. Distant clashes of metal, just like in Dead Space, let you know that someone unfriendly is nearby, vandalizing an abandoned workshop.

And enemy monsters, whose looks are enough to make you panic, shine in their full grim glory. Infernal shrieks and demonically deep baritones they speak in manifest that you’re dealing with a force far beyond human comprehension.

Gameplay 4/5

Remnant: From the Ashes gameplay wants you to banish the ghoulish invaders. The world is divided into zones: Ayesha, Labyrinth, Ward 13, etc. You must clear them and defeat the local bosses.

These zones are the primary source of income. For each slain boss you get valuable resources and also a special skill. For Instance, you can unlock Quick Hands — a talent that increases reload speed. Every zone can be re-cleared many times. But bosses won’t spawn again after death.

There will be four factions to attack. Roots are creatures of unknown, hellish origin. Buri Tribe are brutes, possibly from an alternative reality. Iskal are moth-women who look like pagan deities. And Pan are a race of bipedal human goats.

Some zones and bosses are impossible to beat solo. So, our Remnant: From the Ashes review reminds you that you can join forces with a friend. It’s the only way to beat Remnant 100% percent and explore the hidden gems of its content.

Controls 4/5

Remnant has standard FPS controls. On PC, it’s the classic WASD, Spacebar and mouse buttons to do pretty much everything. But sometimes, switching weapons feels cumbersome as it’s assigned to X. Mouse wheel is way better.

Replay Value 5/5

In your first run, you’ll get to see about 50% of the game’s potential. As said before, recruiting a friend to clear the most dangerous zones is a good idea. And taking the Island Citadel by storm becomes even more thrilling when there’s two of you.

Conclusion

Remnant: From the Ashes is a spectacular game inspired by Dark Souls. It has nice apocalyptic aesthetics, refreshing suspense and a clever AI, which tries to surprise you with every enemy wave. So, if you ever wanted to have a Kalashnikov in Dark Souls — your wish came true..
