Rocket League® Review: The Craziest Vehicular Soccer!

Rocket League is a crazy version of vehicular soccer, with arcade physics and fast-paced gameplay. In it, you drive a car and hit the enormous ball with it, trying to hit the opponent’s goal. You can download Rocket League for Windows, Xbox One, or PlayStation 4 to experience what it’s like.

Graphics 5/5

Visually the game is a bit comic-like, arcade gameplay matching its style. It’s made in complete 3D, with more than just 3D models on the screen, but with moving in three dimensions. Nevertheless, the game is very detailed and colorful, with animation smooth even on PCs six or seven years old. The size of the game is quite reasonable for today – about 20 GB.

Gameplay 5/5

It’s a sort of vehicular soccer with a third-person view where you control one car out of the team. In fact, it’s based on soccer, so your aim is to hit the opponent’s goal with the ball as many times as possible before the time is over. At the same time, the other team will try to do the same. If by the end of the game there is no winner, you have extra time until someone hits the goal.

There are some arcade elements in the gameplay. Cars are totally indestructible, and even when they jump up and fall, they stand on the wheels again. You can jump in the air to hit the ball while it’s up there. And there are powerups you can collect to use when the moment comes.

There are both online and offline games, and there are always enough players online. Millions are eager to drive their cartoonish cars across the stadium to play the most dynamic sort of soccer.

Controls 5/5

Rocket League supports both gamepads and keyboard-and-mouse control. A gamepad, though, suits the gameplay better. With it, you can feel the drive with your hands, and vibration feedback contributes to the feel. On the other hand, if you have always preferred other genres, it will be hard for you to get familiar with this game. But give it some time: it will pay.

Replay Value 5/5

There are various modes and difficulty levels even in single-player mode. You can select the number of players in a team or train alone in the field. The same options apply to multiplayer games, and there are always enough players online for you to find a party. Since around 2015, the game has received several updates, and it’s still highly popular.

The Bottom Line

Rocket League is a very dynamic, spectacular, and high-speed game that makes you focus on the action and feel the drive. It constantly gets updates and DL packs, but after the developers of Rocket League review their policy, Mac and Linux versions are left overboard.

Conclusion

ItÔÇÖs a rare and unusual sort of game, but its quality makes it popular even despite the lack of this genre. Install Rocket League now and play one of the most energetic games ever.
