Graphics – 5/5

The graphics are gorgeous fully supporting the gore atmosphere of the horror. Neighbor game is a visual novel, so the whole story is built upon the visuals, text, and audio. And the former is done great, especially for the Neighbor’s price. The visuals are great taking into consideration really low Neighbor specs, which make it affordable for any player.

Gameplay – 4/5

You’re playing as the freelance designer, Yuuki Kae who is recently moved into the new apartment. The first thing she wants to do after arrival is to greet the neighbor. It’s very Japanese, isn’t it? However, the very strange things happening around this place. Only with the help of the other neighbor upstairs she dares to find out what’s wrong.  We won’t spoiler any details for you to actually enjoy the plot.

Neighbor gameplay can seem plain because there are only texts, audio and images. However, that is the art of the visual novel genre. You may appreciate it eventually. It’s like a good book called Neighbor for PC. It’s a horror story with the elements of Japanese mythology which can provide you a couple of fun evenings.

Controls – 5/5

You will barely use your keyboard in the visual novel Neighbor. Why? Because the genre implies you read most of the time. Sometimes you’ll save the current progress, and that’s all.

Replay Value – 2/5

In many Neighbor reviews, people complain about the length of this game. They wish it was longer. But still, the experience is satisfying. You won’t probably want to run through a full game of Neighbor again just because it lacks the player choices. For some people, it’s a relief because visual novels tend to tease players with some unpredictable twitches. Others want more diversity, and that’s okay, just not in this game.

The Bottom Line

Neighbor’s game size is very small as in the other visual novels. Neighbor’s system requirements are also not high at all. It’s a beautifully written story with alive and interesting characters, intense plot and stunning atmosphere. The music is written by the famous composer in Japan Ryu Takami. If you have never played any visual novels, then it’s a perfect piece to try. Downloading Neighbor during one of the Steam’s sales will guarantee that you never regret the purchase.
