Mother Simulator Review: Humorous, Reflective, Frustrating

Mother Simulator is an indie simulation game that sees you taking care of a robot baby in front of an in-game studio audience while trying to balance your own needs as the mother. The Mother Simulator download is only available for PC.

Graphics — 3/5

While the emphasis of the game might not be in its packaging, the visuals quickly get tiring as you are basically moving around the same place. The cartoonish graphics serve to reduce the seriousness of the task, i.e., taking care of a baby in a humorous way. The design is cute and looks like an actual baby room, with lots of cuddly colors. Unfortunately, the limited spatial extents make this game easily tiring after a few hours of playing.

Gameplay — 4/5

The main part of this Mother Simulator review is its gameplay. The premise is taking care of a robotic toddler to test your caregiving skills. Activities include everything from changing the baby’s diaper and feeding it its bottle to taking a bathroom break yourself after a case of food poisoning. The game marks each activity with a timer which you should beat. The tutorial phase is relatively easy and helps you get your grip on things. Soon enough things start to go wrong as you have to juggle between different activities. Mother Simulator has a penchant for weird, as there is no limit to what you can do with your baby. At some point, the frustration of not completing relatively simple tasks on time gets to you, and you may turn sadistic with your robot child.

The game quickly gets exhausting as you try to juggle between your own activities and the baby’s demands, reminiscent of the first few months of parenthood.

Controls — 3/5

The controls on this game are wonky at best, and you’ll have frustrating moments trying to fit the lid on a bottle or shooting the diapers through hoops. You eventually get used to it, but as the game’s pace increases so does the situation get worse. Throwing diapers into the dustbin can get frustrating, bearing in mind that false throws lead to point deductions. However, the opening tutorial helps you get your bearings right.

Replay Value — 3/5

Mother Simulator isn’t the kind of game that you keep on picking up every time you get bored. The clunky controls suck the life out of the game; and if that isn’t enough, most tasks are awkwardly repetitive with extra pace added. The game is meant to provide a laugh, but it can easily turn you to frowns and frustration as you can't seem to get a rasp of relatively simple tasks.

Conclusion

Mother Simulator might not be a game for everyone. If you totally lack anything to play or if you want to get a feel of what the first few months of motherhood are really like, then this is the game for you. Don’t go into this game expecting to derive too much content or moments to remember other than the frustration of being unable to pass basic motherhood tests.

Conclusion

You might just end up deleting this Mother Simulator download as fast as you installed it due to constant frustration..
