Tube Tycoon Review: From YouTube into Game and Back Again

Tube Tycoon is a vlogger simulator, showing the manner the video bloggers get to their million views and crowds of followers. If you feel like getting in, but don’t intend to make it real, download Tube Tycoon and experience being a YouTube celebrity!

Graphics – 4/5

It seems just a primitive copy of the real YouTube, with no attempt to even simulate the real video. It all goes with titles, comments, and view counter, mimicking the real ones. But it’s quite okay, as the game is, first of all, a parody, and it works this way. One moment you just stop caring about how it looks and join pretending these imaginary vlogs with strange names are real. An extra point goes out to retro-styled intro.

Gameplay – 5/5

In this game you play a beginning vlogger who tries to make a career on YouTube, recording videos on various subjects or letsplays. Videos can be monetized, but they need to be popular enough for that, so first days of your career you try to select the topics to cover or the games to play and comment that the audience would be interested in.

These trials are made in primitive text manner, and the game takes enough time to emulate recording and processing videos, so you can go make yourself some coffee while the video is being published. Then you receive your feedback: read comments, count views, track the dynamics, and see what brings you success.

What we need to highlight in Tube Tycoon review is the irony of all that stuff. The titles of your videos are generated randomly to sound as fabulous as can be. Games parody real titles in funny ways, not even trying to hide that. Comments under your videos are written in that memetic manner you often encounter on real social media.

Controls – 5/5

There’s nowhere to get confused. The game only needs a keyboard when you enter your name; the rest is done just with your mouse. Click buttons to record new videos or capture games, to view comments, to monetize the videos, or to go asleep when tired. This simplification has its undoubtable pros! Though if you have tasted really complicated games and liked them, you’ll probably find this one too dull.

Replay Value – 2/5

Though formally the game is replayable, a joke isn’t that funny when repeated. When you return to it, the humor will fade, already heard. The developers could have avoided that by constantly adding new parodies, reacting to what goes on around. As the gaming process is mostly made of pure grinding, there’s no real need to return to it after.

The Bottom Line

This grinding game is justified by its humor, parodying “real” virtual world with its stars, popular titles, promotion, celebrities, and monetization. But jokes wear out, and so does the game. If you want something funny and easy, we’d recommend this one, but you’ll get tired of it soon.

Conclusion

It’s for those fond of simple games and up-to-date humor, parody and mimicking. If you’re like that, you won’t regret if you download Tube Tycoon..

Pros : A good idea;
Low system requirements;
Real life titles, methods and manners parodied;
Easy to make out.

Cons : In fact, it’s just a funny grinder;
A joke is only good for once;
No space for creativity.
