Jurassic World Evolution Review: Dinosaur Extravaganza

Jurassic World Evolution, or JWE, sees you unlock the full potential of your Dinos. Build up your own Jurassic world with monsters that can think, evolve and react to the world around them. The game was reviewed on Xbox One, but you can download Jurassic World Evolution on Windows and PlayStation 4 as well.

Graphics — 4/5

Everything from the menacing Ankylosaurs to the mighty Diplodocus is faithfully designed to the true spirit of Jurassic World, with quite impressive skins. The detail is almost astonishing. However, the sandbox is just one repetitive model, and the large park almost seems like you are running around the same place. Although the park detail is impressive and does come alive, especially when you’re driving through the island in a jeep. Now that we got graphics out of the way, let’s move on to the next part of the Jurassic World Evolution review.

Gameplay — 4/5

JWE is all about park simulation and management gameplay, and while the graphics are crisp, not much can be said about the actual mechanics. It’s purely a park sim game, in which you are put in charge of parks that house sharp-teeth dinosaurs. Your responsibility lies in taking care of the animals, creating maximum profit for the owners and protecting guests from any incidents. The game starts out with just a few underwhelming species of dinosaurs, but with more cash coming in from visitors and park fees, you can upgrade your animals and get more exclusive animals.

You can set up an Expedition center and a Fossil center that help you identify potential excavation sites and extract dino genomes. There is no shortage of things that could go wrong, especially when dinosaurs come into contact with park guests. There are different facilities to handle rogue animals and rangers to take them out instantly.

Controls — 5/5

Using the left analog stick, you can navigate to different parts of the map or zoom in on a specific area. There are a variety of helpful menus which can help you, e.g., the ACU menu which lets you send out transport teams, the Ranger menu from where you can dispatch different teams and make upgrades to your skins, and the Management menu which can be brought up by pressing the Y button. The controls are quite intuitive.

Replay Value — 4/5

Even though JWE offers great skins and diverse maps, it quickly feels like routine when you are putting up enclosures and breeding dinos. Jurassic World fans get to interact with the environment they’ve come to know and love in great detail, and the ensuing chaos when dinos meet or riot always presents fun moments. You can unlock the next park without unlocking all research items, which makes progression a little less tedious.

Conclusion

JWE keeps up the spirit of the old Jurassic World, and the parks offer plenty of items that need your attention. The character detail of the dinosaurs is not only inherent in their physicality but their personalities too. Much of the game is repetitive, although there are fun moments such as when your creatures break out of their enclosures or fight with other dinosaurs. JWE captures the true spirit of Jurassic World.

Conclusion

Learning the traits and characters of the different species is the main selling point of this game, and you should definitely download Jurassic World Evolution.  .

Captures the spirit of the original films.
