POOL Review — Can You Hustle A Hustler?

POOL is a billiard simulator game for Nintendo Switch. Simple and technically undemanding, it offers a few game modes that you can enjoy either by yourself or with a friend. Download POOL and pocket these balls like a legend!

Graphics — 4/5

This game isn't a visual euphoria by any means. And it's understandable if you look at the POOL system requirements: its Rom file size is merely 103 MB. In return you get your typical Midwest bar or even a southern saloon environment — there's a wooden bar counter, a few brown tables surrounded with the stools, jukebox and an arcade machine. And to complete this cushy vibe there's a squeaky wooden floor with countless cracks.

However, this coziness doesn't feel alive. There are no muffled country or Lynyrd Skynyrd tunes playing in the background, no chatter of the invisible bar visitors and decorations remain lifelessly static. The only sounds you get to hear are the cue and ball bumping against each other.

Gameplay — 4/5

Our POOL review guarantees this is the most straightforward billiard game you will find in the Nintendo store. There are a green pool table and 15 balls that you must pocket. The beauty of the game is that you can regulate the rules yourself and try out various pools games:

  • Cutthroat Pool.
  • 15-Ball.
  • Baseball Billiard.
  •  Bowlliards.
  •  One Pocket and many others.

The aim assistance helps you choose the correct trajectory line, which becomes green when your cue is properly aligned. And then there's the power meter that helps you indicate and decide with how much force you will hit the ball.

If you grow tired of playing solo, you can always invite a buddy. POOL gameplay provides local multiplayer for two people. Unfortunately, online matches aren't an option. As a result don't expect any tournaments, trophies or leaderboards. On the other hand, the game might be your private pool coach, so you can sharpen your hand-eye coordination, strategy and concentration skills.

Controls — 4/5

The POOL full game isn't a much of challenge in terms of controls. It plays perfectly in the handheld mode. But you'll need a bit of practice at choosing the right moment to strike when the power meter charges enough.

Replay Value — 4/5

It is a simple and laconic title. It doesn't offer much extra content, but its gameplay provides exactly what it promises — unlimited pool playing. So returning to the game would be wise if ever you need to assassinate some time.

Conclusion

POOL game is a solid billiard sim. It's a good way to relax, whenever you have another 15 spare minutes or a long-long bus trip. There's no online element whatsoever which is surely a bummer. But the couch co-op must do fine. Plus this simulator may be your training ground to perfect the digital billiard skills.

Conclusion

Download POOL for your Nintendo Switch and belly up to the table like a pro!.
