Suicide Guy Review — Life Quitter's Funny Manual

Suicide Guy is a Nintendo Switch game, also available on PS4. It gives you a bizarre objective: winning by killing your avatar, not in reality, but in a dream. Amusing and occasionally hilarious, it features an interesting approach towards missions and plot narrative. Download Suicide Guy to wake him up and save his precious beer!

Graphics – 4/5

Contradicting its gruesome name, Suicide Guy game looks very colorful, happy and optimistic. There's a major tinge of cartoonish aesthetics here. It almost looks like one of the Simpsons retro games. Every level looks and feels unique and has a pop culture reference. E.g., there will be a Jurassic Park level with a giant dinosaur standing outside an office building, a Mario Bros level with green pipes and trampolines, etc.

The sound effects are pretty good at picturing a big, lumberjack type guy, who isn't shy to pant and burp, paying homage to Homer Simpson. All in all its art style is very humble, but the Suicide Guy system requirements are upsetting: 3.6 GB.

Gameplay – 4.5/5

The game has a very bizarre premise. Protagonist falls asleep with the bottle of beer in his hands. And to prevent his brew from falling on the sticky floor, he must commit suicide in his slumber in order to wake up. That's where the fun begins. There are numerous ways to take your own life:

  • Jumping to the spiked ceiling;
  • Piloting alien ship right into the Sun;
  • Getting eaten by a starving dinosaur;
  • Jumping from the roof etc.

But before you can "slaughter" yourself, you need to solve a puzzle, which eventually leads to the Guy's awakening. It's always based on making items interact, which in turn triggers a sequence of events that finally obliterates our beer-lover. Some puzzles may be brain-twisting and non-obvious. But every usable object flickers dimly, so don't worry about getting stalled.

Controls – 4/5

The game has basic controls for moving, jumping and item interaction. However, due to its slightly tricky physics, you'll need to work on your reaction and timing, if you want to drift through every level seamlessly.

Replay Value – 4/5

It has 25 unique levels to beat. Although you know the outcome of every single one, you can never predict in what way you're going to dispatch yourself next time. Some puzzles are pretty tough to crack, so you'll return to the game a couple of times to finally find a suicide solution. But once the 25th level is over, there's little to do here.

The Bottom Line

Suicide Guy has unorthodox plot, unidentical missions, and a very bizarre main objective. It's a good tongue-in-cheek type game that can banish boredom and help you relax every now and then. Although it costs nearly $8, so our Suicide Guy review recommends you wait for a discount.
