Bloons TD 5 for Nintendo Switch Review: Popā€™em All!

Bloons TD 5 is a Tower Defense strategy, the fifth instalment of the popular series. If you like strategical games that require lots of calculation and quick response, download Bloons TD5 for Nintendo Switch and enjoy it for long!

Graphics 5/5

Though the game was first released back in 2012, its cartoon style provides a big advantage: it doesn’t look obsolete. Bloons are (as you may see) just the balloons that fly to your citadel, but they are colourful, and the land they fly over is detailed and jolly. The game features quite decent animation effects and no wonder that its size is about 1 GB.

Gameplay 5/5

Tower Defense is the type of strategy where the enemy attacks along the predefined route, and you position stationary towers that extinguish the enemy troops on their way. If a certain number of Bloons floating over the road reach your centre, the level is lost. You need to stop the waves before that critical damage is done.

So you place your monkeys in key points along the road, and they pop the bloons within their reach. Monkey towers are various, with different attack range, ratio, and other parameters, plus they are all upgradeable. Hare are also Special Agents you can hire when you need more help. All towers, upgrades, and agents cost coins, but you get them right within the game as rewards for your victories.

The game supports both single player and multiplayer mode. Local multiplayer for two means that the screen is split in two and each player protects his or her citadel from the opponent’s bloons and sending their own off at the same time.

Controls 5/5

Bloons is the series that flourishes on all platforms, and adjusting controls is easy because there’s no complicated action required. You just position your monkeys (or send off your bloons), do your upgrades, and so on. No combos and tricks to do, so the control system is easily transformed for Joy-Cons. One Joy-Con is enough when you play versus a real opponent locally; there isn’t much to learn or combine. The strangest thing is lack of touch controls, though the mobile versions have it.

Replay Value 5/5

If a game of 2012 remains popular and demanded in 2019, it means it’s highly replayable. Lots of levels, various game modes, daily challenges and rewards, and special missions are here to bring something new each day. It also features lots of maps, a complicated upgrade tree for towers, so numerous that they would require a special Bloons TD 5 review. If you’re about to explore it all, it’ll take years.

Conclusion

Tower Defense is the genre that seems now a relic of the late 2000s and early 2010s, but some of its masterpieces are still here, too alive and vivid to be called “legacy”. If we were to choose only one TD game that should outlive its class, let it be Bloons TD 5.

Conclusion

After all these years, it still makes sense to download Bloons TD 5 for Nintendo Switch and enjoy it on a new level..
